Lane Widner, a fourth-generation New Mexican with deep family roots in the state, is currently the Superintendent of Grants Cibola County Schools. Growing up in a family of educators, Mr. Widner graduated from Estancia High School in 1993 and pursued his passion for education at Eastern New Mexico University. He began his career as an Agricultural Education teacher at Moriarty High School, later earning dual Master's degrees in Agricultural Education and Educational Administration from New Mexico State University.
Transitioning to administrative roles, Mr. Widner served as the assistant principal and later interim Head of Schools at East Mountain High School. He furthered his leadership experience as a principal at 5 different schools and held positions as the Assistant Superintendent for Juvenile Justice and the Career and Technical Education Director for Las Cruces Public Schools.
In 2017, Mr. Widner joined Grants Cibola County Schools, initially as the principal of Grants High School, before assuming the role of Superintendent in 2023. Throughout his career, Mr. Widner has emphasized the importance of educators in shaping students' futures and believes in fostering a supportive environment where all students can achieve their aspirations. He envisions Grants Cibola County Schools as a cohesive team dedicated to empowering the children of Cibola County to excel academically and personally.
